Dancing meerkats, dapper giraffes, and mice just chilling in teacups—Brat&Suzie’s realm of cute, quirky characters is like a fairytale Wonderland with a perky, modern twist. Excited to immerse ourselves in this imaginative realm, we decided to hop across the pond (in spirit) to chat with twin sisters Charlotte and Polly Vickerey about the vision behind their brand.
You describe your line as “young, fun, and British”. What does that mean exactly?
British folks are notoriously eccentric and the Brat&Suzie twins are no exception. We appeal to women of all ages, but we are a young brand with a fresh approach to fashion in the sense that we combine our love of animals, nature, and fun with our obsession with fashion and style. Our ethos is that fashion is all about having fun with your outfits—if you walk down the street today wearing a donkey in wellies or a hippy dog on your top, you’re bound to make someone smile.
Everyone thinks twins are completely the same.. How do the two of you differ in terms of your approach to design, business, and personal style?
Polly is the business brain behind the brand and Charlotte is the designer who concocts all the creative ideas. We are quite different in our approach to business—when Polly has an idea, she runs with it straight away while Charlotte likes to think and plan a bit more. This combination works well for us. We are quite similar in terms of personal style, so I guess this is where we are both aligned. We like to combine basics with quirky one-off pieces…like our T-shirts.
What’s you’re favorite Brat&Suzie piece and if you had to give the animal on it a name what would it be?
Charlotte:Mine is the Hip Doggie Tee, as it’s perfect to wear to festivals and I would call her ‘Joni’ after the legendary Joni Mitchell.
Polly: My favorite is the Teacup Mouse Tee because it’s really cute and girly. I would call her Lucille, as I think she is probably French.
The Brat&Suzie mascot, Amber the Chihuahua, looks like a pretty stylish pup. What’s your favorite petwear piece?
Amber’s wardrobe ranges from cute girly dresses to knitted sweaters and fun, fancy pieces. Our favorite is her navy blue parka as it’s bang on trend for the transitional season. Check out this photo of her modeling it!
