Fab Disrupts Design—Again

Fab installation at Salone

It’s the season of furniture fairs. A few weeks ago, Fab invaded Salone Internazionale del Mobile in Milan with lots of fun stuff like colorful crates with our favorite designs, Brillo poufs, and Bradford.

But our most talked-about effort was Disrupt Design, a completely open design competition for designers everywhere. Over 150 designers from over 30 countries pitched products to Fab’s panel of experts (which included the aforementioned Bradford, designers Tom Dixon and Yves Béhar, Dwell Editor in Chief Amanda Dameron and others).

It was an amazing scene, with designers inflating blow-up couches in bathrooms, pulling life-long projects out of suitcases, and getting on-the-spot feedback by some of the world’s sharpest design minds.

While Fab initially planned on selecting three winners, the unexpectedly high quality of entrants resulted in a whopping 12 winning product designs (soon coming to a screen near you).

So we’re doing it again. The second round of Disrupting Design will be held at  ICFF in New York on May 21. Designers from around the world are invited to bring their product ideas, portfolios, and prototypes to:

Jacob K Javits Convention Center (655 W 34th Street)

1 PM – 3 PM on Tuesday, May 21, 2013.

This time, the panel of judges will include luminaries like Bradford (obviously), Herman Miller’s Executive Creative Director Ben Watson, Eames Demetrios, Director of the Eames Office, designers David Trubridge and Harry Allen, Surface Editor in Chief Dan Rubinstein, and Jill Singer, co-founder of Sight Unseen.

Hope to see you there!
