Fab Sounds 2017

What the Fab team has been listening to leading up to SXSW

Since its inception in 1987, South By Southwest (SXSW) has operated with a simple stated purpose: help creative people achieve their goals. We’d say their efforts have been a rollicking success, with SXSW becoming an essential global showcase for technology, film, and interactive media attended by tens of thousands of fans and performers every year.

While the current festival often acts as a springboard for world-changing tech, and can draw the biggest possible names for keynote speeches, the heart of the festival has, and always will be, music.

The first SXSW in 1987 sprung from the (correct) opinion that the sounds coming out of Austin were just as compelling and innovative as what you’d hear in New York, or Los Angeles, or Chicago, or Athens, or London, and that the rest of the world should roll into Texas and have a listen. The showcase was an instant hit, and soon became a vital chance for exposure for not just Texan or American artists, but for musicians from every corner of the earth.

We’ve got all kinds of people from all kinds of places working here at Fab, and music is a major part of each one of our lives. As SXSW gets under way, we put our minds and ears together to make a playlist of the tunes that have been shaking our bones in 2017. Most of the tracks are brand spanking new for 2017, with some slightly older jams we’re just getting around to sprinkled in as well. In keeping with the spirit of SXSW, this collection is undeniably eclectic; give it a shuffle.

So, without explanation or justification, we present Fab Sounds 2017.
