The luxe side of wilderness.

What, exactly, is glamping? Glad you asked, fellow adventurers. Per the official glamping website: “Glamping is a term derived from the two words ‘glamorous camping’.  Glamping is also referred to as “glam camping”, “lux camping”, “luxury camping” and many other similar phrases.” The activity—nay!—sport, seems to require an obstinate number of air quotes—yet it promises its dabblers and connoisseurs the ultimate travel experience.

Though it may seem unorthodox to challenge mother nature with mankind’s conveniences (a crime often committed by yours truly), trust us, you’ll be glad you brought a picnic basket or picnic blanket when your forest foray leads to a riverbank luncheon. Though we can’t speak for everyone, who wouldn’t want to enhance becoming one with nature with a few personal touches?

We’re not talking RVing it to Burning Man—or ‘the Burn’ as most attendees of the quasi-spiritual fest in Nevada call it—we mean more along the lines of utilitarian cutlery, organic beard washes, and patterned textiles as little flourishes for a more encompassing experience. Trust us—when it comes to glamping, who better to trust than a bunch of fast-mouthed New Yorkers whose only idea of ‘roughing it’ consists of fighting off hordes of Sunday brunchers? Okay, we’re much more qualified than that, at least we’d like to think so. Here, we’ve broken down the essentials for your next romp in summer’s greenery. So pack your fanny pack and hit the road, because, just like that, we’ve helped make the great outdoors even greater.
